Jeff's Big Bass - September 2016

September is usually a good month for Bass fishing. The fish are far more numerous by this time of year, the seas are alive with food and the Bass are feeding well, starting to fatten up for the winter.

My buddy Jeff invited me out on his boat to fish the reefs off Littlehampton with big baits to see if we could find a few specimen sized fish. The plan was to fish large mackerel baits on a couple of his favoured marks and wait it out for the big girls.

And wait it out we did! Patience is a necessity in this style of angling but it paid off in the end. To cut a long story short, we waited it out all day for a bite and when it came to Jeff's rods we were not disappointed. At just shy of double figures he was over the moon, it was a fine looking fish.

We fished on in hope of another and again were rewarded. Well....Jeff was. I looked on as he played and boated yet another fish just shy of double figures. He was having quite a day of it!

And that was all the action. I enjoyed Jeff's company, being ghillie and taking his photos for him. I never had a touch all day. It's a funny game fishing, that's just how it goes sometimes. It's always great to share in the joy of your mates catches anyhow and we both returned to port smiling - Nice one Mr Jeff :)
